King Fishers
Fishers Restaurant is situated in the heart of Clifton Village and is dedicated to providing fresh fish and shellfish in an informal and friendly atmosphere. The doors opened in January 2001 and, judging from the queues to get in, the demand for good quality, high variety fresh fish is greater than ever.
The fish is carefully chosen by Fishers Fish Carriage Company at Billingsgate Market and delivered to Fishers’ kitchen for head chef/owner, Colin Mabbutt, to design the daily changing menu. Although much of the fish is internationally sourced (including Canadian lobster, shark, swordfish and barracuda), much of the menu is based around English favourites from the Cornish coast such as skate and Dover sole. If you’re not feeling that adventurous, Fishers has tasty traditional alternatives. Try haddock and chips in beer batter with mushy peas and gherkins, or Scottish salmon fishcakes with fresh spinach and lemon butter sauce.
There will always be a selection of shellfish on the menu to satisfy all cravings for oysters, mussels, prawns, lobster, scallops and more. The interior of the restaurant is designed in a nautical theme; ventilator pipes, sails on the ceilings, ship lanterns – even the kitchen doors have portholes! A diverse wine list (mainly white) compliments the menu and regularly features special recommendations. Quick word of advice – it is essential to book!
